25 Now when [the apostles] had borne their testimony and preached the message of the Lord, they went back to Jerusalem, proclaiming the glad tidings (Gospel) to many villages of the Samaritans [on the way].26 But an angel of the Lord said to Philip, Rise and proceed southward or at midday on the road that runs from Jerusalem down to Gaza. This is the desert [[g]route].27 So he got up and went. And behold, an Ethiopian, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure, had come to Jerusalem to worship.28 And he was [now] returning, and sitting in his chariot he was reading the book of the prophet Isaiah.29 Then the [Holy] Spirit said to Philip, Go forward and join yourself to this chariot. Acts 8:25-28.
I love this story about Philip. He was a man who obeyed the Lord without arguing. Because he was quick to obey the leading of the Lord, a man who had great influence with the Queen of Ethiopia was saved. Who knows how many people that eunuch was instrumental in bringing to the Lord? How many families did he impact after his salvation?
Let’s go back and look at Philip. He was with a group that had borne their testimony and was headed back to Jerusalem. Maybe Philip would have liked to have stayed in their company. It might have been more comfortable than going alone down the hot and dusty road in the middle of the day – the desert route. Maybe he wondered why he had to go there. But still he went.
The Holy Spirit is still leading Christians today. Still telling one – go here or go there. If we all listened and obeyed the Spirit of the Lord without argument wouldn’t that be beautiful? How many more people would be blessed by our being at the right place at the right time?
I pray we be at the right place at the right time.
Jesus is Lord!
